While many think about probiotic food and think yogurt, there is a wide array of food fortified with probiotic bacteria available — and more coming all the time. Most of this food tastes just as good as food without probiotics so many will choose this option, but to truly maximize the benefits of your new health plan, it’s important to know all the facts.

Why choose probiotic enriched foods?

Quite simply, eating a tasty serving of yogurt is a great way to get a good dose of probiotics and is a good addition to your probiotic supplementation. Probiotic food is categorized as anything that contains live probiotic bacteria, which offers a wide variety of health benefits.

Probiotic food began with milk enriched with acidophilus. You can still get this particular variety of probiotic enriched food, but now you are also able to get popular probiotic fortified yogurt as well as many types of cheeses, soups like miso soup, sauerkraut and even pickles. These are a great option for someone that is looking to add probiotic food to their diet and doesn’t want to just stick to dairy products.

Probiotic foods are a great way to reap the benefits of probiotics without having to remember to take pills. That said, probiotic foods may not be for everyone, so let’s explore probiotic supplements.

Why choose probiotic supplements?

For a finicky eater, probiotic foods may not offer the range and selection they usually prefer with their meal options. For these people, a probiotic supplement in pill, capsule, liquid extract or powder form may be a better option. There are a wide variety of options available for probiotics supplements.

For someone just looking for better health overall, a multi-species probiotics supplement would be the way to go. These supplements contain different strains of probiotic bacteria for wide spectrum benefits. If there are two specific benefits you are looking for, you may want to look at duel-species supplements. If there is really only one issue you want to tackle, you would want to choose a single-species supplement.

Which is right for you?

Whether you choose probiotic enriched food or probiotic supplements in pill or powder form will be up to you. You need to consider which option is best for you. Regardless of which you choose, the important thing to remember is that you have made a valuable choice for your health and it’s important to keep making that choice. With the vast number of options available to you, it has never been easier to reap the benefits of this important bacterium.
